A car was pounced by a leopard last night and fell into a 150-foot-deep ravine near Hawan village in the district, killing one person and injuring three others, a government spokesman said on Wednesday.
He said the incident occurred when the people in the car were returning from a wedding in Mandi district.
The spokesperson said Himmat Singh, who was driving the vehicle, was killed and three others were injured when the leopard pounced on the vehicle. The impact was so strong that the vehicle fell into a ravine, he added. The spokesman said that after learning about the incident, nearby villagers reported it to the police. The injured were sent to the hospital for treatment, and doctors declared Himmat Singh dead.
He added that the Gurmarwin police had sent the body of the deceased to the Civil Hospital for autopsy and had registered an accident case. The spokesman said the matter was under further investigation.
