Lenovo shows off transparent display laptop at MWC 2024

MWC 2024 is taking place this week in Barcelona, ​​Spain, and Lenovo showed off a prototype laptop with a transparent screen during the global event on Monday (February 26). The Lenovo ThinkBook transparent display laptop concept comes with a 17.3-inch Micro-LED transparent display. In addition to the concept laptop, the Chinese tech giant also launched a new range of ThinkPad and ThinkBook business laptops and a ThinkVision M14t Gen 2 portable mobile monitor during the event. The latest generation of the ThinkPad series includes the ThinkPad T14 i Gen 5, ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2, and ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4. They all use the latest Intel Core Ultra processors and some models are equipped with Intel vPro technology.

The ThinkBook transparent display laptop concept is the industry’s first laptop to feature a 17.3-inch Micro-LED transparent display, the company said in a statement. The laptop features a bezel-less screen with 1000 nits brightness. It has a transparent keyboard area and is said to use artificial intelligence (AI) in its tasks. The laptop will allow users to switch between keyboard and drawing tablet using a supported pen. Lenovo says the laptop is a “proof of concept.” It is not expected to be available in the short term.

Pricing and availability details for the new laptops and monitors are currently unclear. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 are available in Eclipse Black or Luna Gray color options, while the ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 and ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 are available in Eclipse Black color.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 both run Windows 11 Pro and offer up to 64GB DDR5 RAM and up to 2TB of SSD storage. They are powered by Intel Ultra-Core processors with Intel vPro and Intel Arc graphics. The ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 model also comes with an AMD Ryzen 8040 CPU option and comes with AMD Ryzen AI built-in.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 is equipped with a maximum 14-inch 2.8K OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a brightness of 400nits. ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 supports OLED displays with up to 16-inch 4K resolution. They feature a 5-megapixel camera and include dual speakers and dual microphones.

It comes with a battery unit of up to 52.5Whr, while the ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 offers a battery of up to 86Whr. Both models have a fingerprint reader on the keyboard and an infrared camera option with Windows Hello facial recognition. They offer connectivity up to Wi-Fi 7.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 measures 315.9×223.7×17.7 mm and weighs approximately 1.30 kg, while the ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 measures 359.7×251.7×23.5 mm and weighs 1.63 kg.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 and Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 laptops run Windows 11 Pro operating system and are powered by Intel Core Ultra processors with Intel vPro technology. Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 offers up to 64GB DDR5 memory and up to 2TB PCIe Gen4x4 SSD storage. Meanwhile, the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 has up to 32GB LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB PCIe Gen4x4 SSD storage.

Lenovo is offering the ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 with up to 14-inch 2.8K OLED display options with 400nit brightness and 120Hz refresh rate. In comparison, the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 has a 12.3-inch WUXGA IPS display with 400 nits brightness.

Both models come with dual speakers and dual microphones, supporting Dolby Voice. The ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 features Dolby Atmos technology, while the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 offers Dolby Audio support. The former has a 5-megapixel camera, while the latter has an 8-megapixel webcam. They also include a fingerprint reader, an infrared camera with Windows Hello facial recognition, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, and offer support for Wi-Fi 7.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 comes with a 58Whr battery, and the ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 comes with a 42Whr battery.

Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 4th generation specifications

Lenovo’s new ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 4th generation laptop runs up to Windows 11 Pro and comes with the latest Intel Core Ultra CPU and Intel integrated graphics. It supports up to 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD storage. The laptop comes with a Full HD or Full HD IR hybrid camera. For security, the camera will use Windows Hello and a fingerprint reader.

The ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 4th generation can be used as a tablet and features a 14-inch WU IPS display with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a brightness of 300 nits. It comes with dual Harman speakers that support Dolby Atmos and 2W output. It is equipped with a 60Whr battery, supports up to Wi-Fi 6E, measures 312×223.5×16.85-18.7mm, and weighs approximately 1.64 kg.

Finally, the Lenovo ThinkVision M14t Gen 2 mobile monitor features a 14-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1,400×2,240 pixels, an aspect ratio of 16:10, and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The touch display adopts a three-sided near-edge bezel-less design with a contrast ratio of 1500:1 and 100% sRGB color gamut coverage. The display is TUV Rheinland certified for low blue light emissions.

The monitor features dual USB Type-C ports for charging and connectivity. Users can connect the screen to a laptop or smartphone through these ports, which can also charge the device via a power adapter or an AC/DC adapter. The monitor weighs approximately 700 grams and is 4.6 mm thick.
