Lawrence Fox mocked for wearing Nike shoes and calling for boycott of Nike

Laurence Fox was mocked for wearing Nike shoes and calling for a boycott of Nike.

The sportswear company has attracted criticism after it changed the appearance of the St George’s Cross on England’s shirts ahead of Euro 2024.

Nike said the use of purple and blue horizontal stripes was a “fun update” but some fans claimed it was “insulting”.

Speaking to a small group of protesters outside Downing Street on Saturday, Fox told the company to “leave our flag alone”.

But when a photo of Foxx addressing the crowd was shared online, his shoes became the center of attention, with many pointing out the irony.

Twitter user Dean Johnson wrote: “Laurence Fox leading a ‘Million Man March’ of about 50 people wearing Nike sneakers to boycott Nike was comedy gold.” The satire has been died. “

Ben Cogan added: “OMG! Just when you thought Laurence Fox couldn’t get any more ridiculous, he’s already amazing: he steps up and takes your breath away even more! Here’s a hate slogan calling for a boycott of all Nike products… … while wearing a pair of Nike sneakers.”

After donning the blue and white Nike boots, the 45-year-old made a sarcastic “apology” on the X.

In a brief video, he showed off the three pairs of Nike shoes he owns but argued it didn’t matter because he bought them before the St. George’s Cross redesign.

He said: “I just went online and saw that I was going viral wearing a pair of Nike high-tops that were 15 years old. It gets worse – I don’t know, these are about six or seven years older than these. These are classics, I don’t know. It’s been around since 2007.”

At a rally attended by about 100 people on Saturday, Fox mentioned England Under-21 football star Harvey Elliott, who wore the collar during Saturday’s game against Azerbaijan.

Elliott’s decision left some commentators wondering if it was an attempt to hide the controversial new cross on the jersey.

“Harvey Elliott kept his collar up in yesterday’s game, which was good,” Fox said. “Leave our flag alone.”

Attendees sang the national anthem and waved Union Jack and Union Jack flags. The crowd also chanted “Get Sadiq (Khan) out” and “The rise of the new right”.

Fox, who plans to run as the Restoration Party candidate in this year’s London mayoral election, also targeted the shirt at Turning Point UK’s “British Culture Rally” in Westminster.

He said that if he was nominated as mayor of London, “you would never see another pride flag in this dirty town”. Fox posed with a banner that read “Lee (Anderson) and Suela (Braverman) were right.”

During the rally, police officers got into altercations with a handful of attendees who were drunk in public.

Police confiscated their drinks and the event continued without further incident.
