Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday announced the launch of 100 newly designed ‘Ashwamedha Classic’ point-to-point express buses. Launched by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the newly launched buses are an upgraded version of Karnataka’s ‘Sarige’ non-AC buses and will be used between the district headquarters and Bengaluru, officials said. Operates on point-to-point routes.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that 5,800 buses will be added to the fleet of the state transport unit this financial year. He also pointed out that KSRTC has launched many passenger-friendly schemes.
According to KSRTC officials, the newly launched buses have prominent features such as front and rear LED destination panels, instrument panel, electronic vehicle stability control system, vehicle position tracking device, emergency button and public address system. KSRTC plans to induct 948 new diesel buses and 300 electric buses in this fiscal year. By the end of December, a total of 180 buses (153 diesel buses and 27 electric buses) had been added.
