Sir Ed said in a statement: “The Prime Minister now needs to appoint an ambassador who will stand for Trump, not for him and his chronies.
“They need to be revealed to Parliament and need to explain why Lord Mandelson was appointed in the first place, all this was given that the government knew.

Tory Neel O’Brien: ‘What did PM know and when?’
The Independent political correspondent Archie Michel Report:
A Tory FrontBencher demanded the Sir Kire Stmper what he knew and when Lord Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and his appointment as ambassador to the US demands answers.
Neil O’Brien said that this is “another extraordinary error of the decision by this Prime Minister”.
He said: “It raises a large number of questions. It is not just that Peter Mandelson said that Epstein was his best sail and he loved him.
“It was not just that he signed a deal for him while being a business secretary. We now, of course, know that he was working for Epstein’s initial release after being convicted.
“And the simple question is, is the minister now saying that the Prime Minister did not know about anyone at that point that he was appointed?”
“What did the Prime Minister know at the point of his appointment?”
