The adjustment of King Charles’ seat during Easter services is reminiscent of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
His Majesty is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and this is his first public appearance since his diagnosis.
A royal commentator has highlighted that King Charles stayed away from his family during Easter services, recalling the late Queen’s distance from her family at husband Prince Philip’s funeral due to Covid-19 restrictions.
“So this was unofficially named the Easter Light,” Rafe Heydel-Makoo told UK News.
“So it’s very similar to the structure and skeleton of a traditional Easter service, just with a smaller number of royals and some slight adjustments to take into account that His Majesty is undergoing medical treatment and does need to be separated a little bit from the congregation because of the infection Risks etc.
“The king and queen sit slightly apart. It really reminds us of [late] The Queen attended the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in the same building, almost three years ago on April 17. “
It is understood he was seated slightly further away from the others, part of an arrangement that is “acceptable” to the king at this stage.
The King attended Easter morning prayers at St George’s Church in Windsor this afternoon, but is not expected to attend the post-service reception or host a lunch, The Daily Telegraph reported.
The Duke and Duchess of York attended the Easter service with King Charles and Queen, along with Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
The Duke of York no longer carries out royal duties as he is not a working royal, but as the king’s brother he is allowed to attend private family events.
Ahead of his public appearance, the king sent an Easter message of “care and friendship” on Thursday. The pre-recorded audio message will be the king’s first public address since the Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis last week.
The news was broadcast at the Royal Maundy Day ceremony at Worcester Cathedral in his absence.
Kate and Prince William did not attend the Easter service after Kate revealed on Friday that she was also undergoing treatment for a form of cancer.
