King Charles attends Easter Sunday church service

King Charles and Camilla greet some well-wishers

Windsor, UK:

Britain’s King Charles III attended an Easter church service on Sunday in his most high-profile public appearance since announcing his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, arrived by car at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in west London for an hour-long morning service.

The 75-year-old, wearing a suit and light blue tie, smiled and waved to the crowds – who had queued for hours to catch a glimpse of the ailing monarch – before entering the church. Style.

After leaving the ceremony, King Charles and Camilla greeted some of the well-wishers lining up outside, shaking hands and speaking briefly to some in the crowd.

Attending the annual religious service is a long-standing annual tradition for members of the royal family, with other family members also attending on Sunday.

But heir to the throne Prince William and his wife Catherine are conspicuous by their absence this year, as the 42-year-old Princess of Wales is undergoing treatment for cancer after being diagnosed with cancer just last week.

The situation represents an unprecedented crisis for the monarchy in modern times, as two of its most senior members battle serious illnesses at the same time.

In early February, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had cancer and suspended all public-facing events while he began treatment, just 17 months after he became king.

In January, he was admitted to hospital for surgery for a benign prostate condition but was later diagnosed with an unrelated cancer. The type of cancer has not been disclosed.

The king has continued to work behind the scenes, holding some in-person meetings and increasingly attending official events.

This week he released a pre-recorded Easter audio message – played at a Maundy Day service at Worcester Cathedral in central England in which he was absent – emphasizing the importance of acts of friendship.

The Queen was also pictured receiving community and religious leaders at Buckingham Palace in central London on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, photos last week showed him meeting diplomats and Korean War veterans at the palace at two separate events.

King Charles said in a statement earlier this month that he would continue to serve “to the best of my ability” and that he was “deeply touched” by people’s wishes for his health.

He praised Kate’s bravery in a video message last week when he revealed she was undergoing chemotherapy.

She was last seen at a public event on December 25 and then underwent abdominal surgery in January before the cancer was discovered.

Her Kensington Palace office said at the time that she was not expected to be ready to return to public duties until after Easter.
