Kozhikode, October 25 (IANS) Former BJP state unit president K. Surendran on Saturday said Kerala has finally taken the right stand on the National Education Policy (NEP), a position the BJP has been advocating for a long time.
Surendran said the state government and some Congress-ruled states had accepted that the BJP’s position was right, even if implementation had been delayed over the past four years.
He criticized the delay in implementing the NEP initiative, and pointed out that hundreds of thousands of students missed out on the benefits of the policy’s modern educational programs.
Surendran urged the government to implement NEP in this academic year without any delay and stressed that children should not be inconvenienced.
He said the Left Front has misled the public by creating unnecessary controversies and is largely responsible for the current debate over education reforms.
Welcoming the Education Minister’s admission that there were no flaws in the NEP and that he had modified his earlier stand, Surendran called for an apology from the public for the prolonged inaction.
He described the CPI(M)’s claim that the PM-SHRI program is only a tool to “earn cash” and the policies will not be implemented as “ridiculous”, stressing that the Central government’s directives will be implemented in Kerala like other states.
Surendran further explained that the curriculum reform falls under concurrent subjects, allowing both the Center and the state to intervene.
He said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government will correct the historical narratives neglected by the Congress and encourage students to learn about personalities like Veer Savarkar, Dr. Hedgewar and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.
He also targeted the CPI, saying, “CPI may bark, but it will not bite.” Surendran pointed out that CPI’s claims, including opposition to Maoist hunting and ration reforms, have not materialized, and even its ministers have not resigned over controversial issues like the One India One Ration Card scheme.
According to Surendran, the ongoing debate shows that both the Left and the Congress in Kerala are trying to mislead the public instead of focusing on the practical implementation of education reforms.
