Keeping UP safe: State gets record 1 lakh CCTV cameras as part of Smart City Mission

Uttar Pradesh has successfully implemented a network of 100,000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras as part of the Smart Cities Mission. This initiative launched by the Urban Development Department in collaboration with the Home Department specifically focuses on the safety of women, children and the elderly.

This effort is part of enhancing the overall infrastructure and security apparatus of the state. According to the state government, all 100,000 CCTV cameras have been strategically installed in 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddha Nagar and integrated into the broader Safe City project. This deployment will ensure round-the-clock surveillance, providing a strong safety net for the citizens of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the government, the implementation of this extensive CCTV network not only acts as a deterrent to potential criminal activities but also provides a sense of security to women, children and the elderly.

Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department, Amrit Abhijat stressed the importance of the Safe Cities project within the broader framework of the Smart Cities Mission. He said that beyond improving infrastructure, this initiative is a testament to the state’s commitment to the safety of its residents. He also expressed confidence that the Safe City project will play an important role in establishing Uttar Pradesh as the safest state in the country.

The core of this security network lies in the Smart City’s Integrated Command and Control Center and Integrated Traffic Management System. All 100,000 cameras are monitored centrally, allowing real-time response to incidents. It was said that this centralized approach increases the efficiency of security systems in cities, ensuring quick action and improving overall security.
