Officials said on Sunday that at least seven people were killed and many others faced injuries in two separate incidents of landslides in CloudBust and Katua districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Five people lost their lives due to floods due to a cloudburst in Jodh Ghat, while two persons were killed in a landslide in Janglot.
Rail operations in some sections have been affected in some sections after the CloudBust incident in Katua district of Jammu and Kashmir, causing temporary disruption due to heavy rains.
Officials are taking necessary measures to ensure safety and restoring the general situation as soon as possible, in which the specific train is to follow the update on the schedule.
Northern Railway, SR DCM Jammu Division, appropriate Singhal has clarified that heavy rains have flowed water above the danger level on Bridge -43 between Katua and Budi.
As a result, the train movement on the UP line has been temporarily suspended, and the up trains are being operated through a temporary single line on the down line track.
“Many calls are being obtained regarding tracking the damage. It is to clarify that due to heavy rains, the BR-43 is flowing above the danger level through the BR-43. In view of this, the up-line movement has been suspended temporarily until the water level is low and in the meantime, the short-tritting has been reduced through a temporary line.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that the central government was closely monitoring the situation.
Shah assured full support from the government and said that rescue operations are going on with the help of local administration and NDRE teams.
In a post on the social media platform X, Shah wrote, “Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir talked about the cloudburst in Kathua. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the local administration, and NDRF teams have also been taken to the site.”
“The Modi government assured every support. We are standing firmly behind our sisters and the brothers of Jammu and Kashmir,” the post read.
On flash floods and landslides in Kathua, Jammu’s Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said, “There was heavy rains in Katua since last night … Seven people have died due to landslides. Defense operations are going on … Some people are being saved by helicopters because people who have died in connectivity … Those who have died due to landslide,”
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also expressed deep pain over life loss due to rain-trigger landslides in many areas of Kathua district.
Calling the tragedy as “Mind-Sunning”, LG Sinha said that he informed Union Minister Shah on the ongoing rescue and relief work.
