Bengaluru, Oct 24 (IANS) Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said a team from Karnataka has left for Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh to collect information about the passengers from Bengaluru following the tragic bus accident in the early hours of Thursday in which 11 passengers are feared burnt alive. When the accident occurred, the Odisha-registered bus was going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru.

Speaking to the media, Minister Reddy said, “I have spoken to officials and gathered information that the bus had an All India Permit, which allows it to operate anywhere in the country. I have directed officials from Bagepalli, the nearest town to Kurnool, to visit the spot and collect details about the passengers from our state.”

Minister Reddy said, “They do not have any fixed routes. The law allows such buses to operate without paying taxes in a particular state. Earlier, buses did not have emergency doors. After a similar tragedy, I ensured that double emergency doors were installed in all RTC and private buses – more than 50,000 in total.”

“The bus is registered in Odisha and its fitness certificate was also obtained from there. Our officials are collecting more information,” he said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, reacting to the tragedy, said, “I am disturbed and saddened by the tragic bus fire accident on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru route near Chinnatekuru village in Kurnool district. Many precious lives were lost and many were injured in this heart-wrenching incident.”

“My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Wishing strength and speedy recovery to the injured.”

Expressing condolences, Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president DK Shivakumar said, “Deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic bus fire near Kurnool on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru route. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. We stand with all the affected people and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai said, “The news of the tragic fire accident in a private bus going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru near Chinnatekur in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh is extremely saddening.

“May the departed souls rest in peace and may the injured recover soon. I urge the Karnataka government to provide all necessary assistance to the local administration.”

Opposition leader R. Ashok said, “It is shocking to know that a private bus going from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire after colliding with a bike near Kurnool, resulting in the death of several passengers.”

He said, “There is a possibility that many of the passengers were Kannadigas and residents of Bengaluru. I urge the Chief Minister to send a special team from the state government to assist the local administration in identifying the dead and ensuring proper treatment for the injured, and also announce compensation for the families of the victims.”

BJP state president and MLA BY Vijayendra said, “Deeply saddened to know about the tragic fire accident near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, where 11 passengers died when a private bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru met with an accident. I pray for the peace of the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured.”
