Bengaluru, Oct 25 (IANS) The Karnataka BJP has criticized Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president DK Shivakumar for not taking action against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, after he projected PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi as his father’s successor.
BJP wondered “doesn’t he even have the courage to issue a notice to CM Siddaramaiah’s son”?
Opposition leader R. “Shivakumar has the courage to threaten film actors by saying that he will ‘tighten their nuts and bolts,'” Ashok said on Saturday. He has the courage to threaten the MLAs, saying they should behave politely. He even has the courage to shout at party workers on his own will. But as the President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), do you not even have the courage to issue a notice to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra, Mr. DK Shivakumar?
Ashok further attacked, saying, “When you look to the Delhi high command for everything, how will you lead the state if you somehow become the Chief Minister tomorrow, Mr. DK Shivakumar?”
“Just as late Dr Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, but the real power was in the hands of Sonia Gandhi, even if you suddenly become the Chief Minister, there is no doubt that Siddaramaiah will remain the ‘Super CM’.
What will be the benefit to Kannada people if a weak leader like you becomes the Chief Minister?” Ashok asked a question.
In a major development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son, MLC Yatindra Siddaramaiah had said that his father is at the last stage of his political career. He further said that at this critical juncture, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi will take the lead in guiding those who follow scientific and progressive thought.
These statements have sparked a major controversy amid rumors of leadership change in Karnataka and talk of a power-sharing agreement.
Yatindra said, “Today, my father is at the end of his political life. He is in the last phase of his political career. At this time, for those adopting scientific and progressive ideas, PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi will take the responsibility and provide leadership.”
Although Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar had said that no one is bigger than the party and party workers should remain dedicated to the party, but no action has been initiated till date. However, the party has earlier also issued notices to MLAs for raising leadership issues publicly.
Refusing to comment on the matter, Shivakumar later said he would send a message to the appropriate parties. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Friday, when Shivakumar was asked whether he would issue a notice to Yathindra, he said, “I will not talk about the matter right now. I will send the message where it should reach.”
Shivakumar underlined, “I stand by discipline. Discipline is the priority of my party.” These statements are likely to trigger a major controversy within the ruling Congress, as the Siddaramaiah camp is also expected to react to Shivakumar’s comments.
Meanwhile, sources confirmed that a report on Yathindra’s statement, along with a video clip of his announcement, has already been sent to the party high command by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). The Shivakumar camp is confident that the national leadership will pay attention to the message given through Yathindra’s comments.
