The Karnataka Budget Session 2024 began on February 12 with Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot delivering the opening address.

The session, which runs through Feb. 23, focuses on the state’s financial plan and legislative priorities.

The Karnataka budget session kicked off with a promising update on infrastructure, Oneindia reported.

Anticipated projects such as Electronic City subway The Blue Line extension will transform transportation in the state.

Electronics City Metro Expansion and Blue Line Extension

The Namma Metro Yellow Line, connecting Bommasandra and Silk Board, is about to be completed. The 19-kilometre, 16-station line will be operational by July 2024, including key hubs such as Silk Board and HSR Layout. This line will significantly reduce the travel time of IT professionals and ease traffic congestion on Hosur Road.

The Blue Line extension will be completed by June 2026 and will provide direct metro access from the city center to Kempegowda International Airport. Nonetheless, the 26.1-km stretch will have 10 stations, including important stations such as KR Puram and KIA. The project aims to improve airport accessibility and reduce traffic congestion on major roads.

1,150 new buses enhance public transport

In a significant boost to public transport, Karnataka has introduced 1,150 new buses in the last eight months. These buses include electric buses, standard diesel buses and medium-duty buses and are designed to enhance connectivity in urban and rural areas.

By improving travel options, the initiative aims to reduce overcrowding, improve convenience and encourage more people to choose public transport, thereby contributing to making Karnataka greener and less congested cities.
