Kamal Nath aide and former Congress minister joins BJP ahead of polls

Former Madhya Pradesh minister and four-time MP Chhindwara Dipak Saxena and his supporters joined the BJP on Friday night.

Congress chief minister Mohan Yadav welcomed Mr Saxena, a close aide of senior Congress leader Kamal Nath, to the ruling party.

Mr Saxena, who quit the Congress party on March 22, said he joined the BJP because of the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Yadav and the Influence of BJP President VD Sharma. Earlier, his son Ajay Saxena joined the BJP.

“Under the leadership of Kamal Nath’s son Nakul Nath, the Chhindwara MP, the Congress has become aimless. In the last six years , my father was marginalized and the workers of Chhindwara were ignored. That is why my father decided to part ways with Chhindwara. Congress,” said Ajay Saxena.

When Kamal Nath became chief minister in 2018, Dipak Saxena resigned from the Assembly seat so that the latter could become an MLA.

On March 29, Amarwara MP Kamlesh Pratap Shah, a Kamal Nath loyalist, switched to the BJP. Mr Shah won the Amawala seat for the third consecutive time.

In the November 2023 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress won all seven assembly seats in Chhindwara district. The BJP is making every effort to ensure that it wins Chhindwara, the only Lok Sabha seat that the Congress won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress party’s renominated Nakul Nath will take on the BJP’s Vivek Sahu. The vote is scheduled for April 19.
