Ottawa:

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Thursday that they were seeking to work constructively with the Indian government in its investigation into the killing of designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

According to CPAC, Mr. Trudeau was asked: “When Canada has credible allegations and India wants Canada to complete its own investigation first, India is asking Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Ni How is the cooperation in the investigation of the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar?”? “

The Canadian Prime Minister responded: “The killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is something that we should all take extremely seriously.”

“We do not make announcements lightly about credible allegations of involvement of Indian government agents, but as a nation founded on diversity, we have a responsibility to protect all Canadians from the unlawful conduct of foreign governments. This needs to be taken very seriously,” ” he added.

India earlier denied the accusations were baseless.

According to a video shared by CPAC, Trudeau said the Canadian government is ensuring a proper investigation is conducted.

“That is why we have been unequivocal in upholding the rule of law and ensuring that appropriate investigations are conducted in full compliance with our justice system and police independence,” the Canadian Prime Minister said.

Furthermore, he said they are cooperating constructively with the Indian government to get to the bottom of the matter.

“In the meantime, we are working hard. We hope to work constructively with the Indian government to get to the bottom of this matter, understand how this happened and ensure that no Canadians are again affected by any foreign interference by any international power. ” he added.

Nijar was designated a terrorist by the National Bureau of Investigation in 2020. On the evening of June 18, 2023, he was shot and killed as he came out of the monastery in Surrey, British Columbia.

Trudeau claimed that the Indian government played a role in Nijar’s killing, a charge that India denied and led to a deterioration in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

India denies the accusations, calling them “ridiculous and motivated”.

Canada was unable to provide any evidence to support its version of the killing, according to the foreign ministry.
