Making a stellar comeback to the Indian team, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant earned a worthy call-up for the T20 World Cup 2024 as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the squad for the marquee event. Pant, who has emerged as one of the standout performers in this IPL, had to sacrifice a lot to be fully fit for the T20 World Cup. Following a disciplined diet, Pant not only said goodbye to his favorite foods but also opted for a rigorous sleep schedule to help his body recover quickly.

According to a report in Times of India, Pant went on a strict calorie deficit program, which required him to give up his favorite foods like fried chicken, rasmalai and biryani. But, he couldn’t give up the cold chicken, which was then prepared using only 5 ml of extra virgin olive oil.

“He adopted a calorie-free diet from the end of December. If his body demanded 1400 calories per day, he was given around 1000 calories. This was difficult for him as he had to train very hard to achieve match-fitness. Had to strengthen the muscles of his injured right leg,” a source involved in Pant’s rehabilitation told TOI.

“Pant wanted taste in his food. That’s why when he was at NCA, he moved to a rented house in Bengaluru instead of a hotel. He loved home-cooked food. He only had 5 ml of extra virgin olive oil. Oil was allowed. “He couldn’t give up his love for chili chicken, so a recipe was created to make it with that much oil, which was one of his favorites,” a source told the newspaper. ‘

The report also claims that Pant has lost around 16 kg in the last four months and this has been possible due to his strict sleep schedule.

“All gadgets, including phones, iPads and TVs, were switched off by 11 pm. He had to get eight-nine hours of uninterrupted sleep to get back to rigorous training the next morning,” the report quoted a source as saying.
