Aston Villa captain John McGinn He says that a setback cannot be allowed from his side. Europa League Loss to Dutch Minnows Move Over Eagles to derail them Premier League Form.
Emiliano Buendia missed a late spot-kick as Villa squandered an early lead and fell to a 2–1 defeat at Deventer.
Ivan Gessand set them up for their sixth consecutive win in all competitions, but they missed several chances to tie the game down and goals either side of half-time from Mathis Suure and Mats Djell gave Go Ahead a famous victory in one of the biggest games in their history.
Villa’s attention immediately turns to their domestic campaign where they welcome the in-form Manchester City At Villa Park on Sunday after three consecutive league wins.
McGinn said: “We’re disappointed but we’ve got a big game on Sunday, we’ve been in great form in the league, we’ve got to keep it going and there’s no tougher job than Man City.
“We’ll talk about it in the next 24 hours but after that we’ll park it.”
It was an unexpected blow in Villa’s quest to make the top eight of the league stage as Unai Emery plans for a fourth Europa League title.
They still have enough to do to make it to the league stage of the competition, although their next match, against Maccabi Tel Aviv, has become a highly political issue.
“The disappointing goal was the first one, we worked on it, we knew what they were going to do and we just didn’t adapt to it,” McGinn said.
“It’s up to us as players. We can’t accept things like this when we’re in control of the game.”
“Yes, we had a chance to go up two or three times but we also had a chance to defend it better and we didn’t do that.
“When you give a little bit of life to a team that is really passionate about it, you can be punished.
“We gave them life out of nowhere and that is why we lost.
“I’m not sure it was complacency, the goal was definitely a case of sloppiness and switch offs and we didn’t get the control of the game that we had.
“Overall, a really disappointing night.
“With the penalty we had a chance to pick up a point and move on but we have five games to fix it and make sure we are in the top eight.”
