U.S. President Joe Biden said on Friday he expected Iran to attack Israel “sooner rather than later” and warned Tehran not to proceed.

Asked by reporters about his message to Iran, Biden said simply: “No,” stressing Washington’s commitment to defending Israel.

“We are committed to defending Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed,” he said.

Biden said he would not disclose security information, but said he expected an attack could happen “sooner rather than later.”

Earlier, White House spokesman John Kirby said a reported imminent Iranian attack on Israel was a real and viable threat, but did not reveal any details about its possible timing.

Kirby said the United States is reviewing its military posture in the region in light of threats from Tehran and is monitoring the situation closely.
