J&K: House damaged in shelling during Indo-Pak struggle, family wants help

Local people of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir were the first time in the line of fire during a recent struggle between India and Pakistan, which came to a halt after the two countries have come to a halt.

However, the destruction caused by the fire from the Pakistani side has caused havoc in the lives of people living in villages near the border areas, destroyed their houses or in a dilapidated position, it has become unacceptable.

Mohammad, a elder village in Rajouri, said that his entire house came down after hitting shells in the building. He appealed to the government to provide tents and other assistance to his family as they are not to go anywhere.

“It was the morning when I was going for my prayers, and we heard the explosion. We have a house with two floors that have come down. It has become uninhabited. We should be given tents or some kind of assistance. They (officers) came and gone. I was admitted to the hospital (after injuries).

He said, “I took a loan to teach my daughter … We have no support. I urge the government to help us in any way,” he said.

Maria, a member of the family, said that his uncle Mohammed and his cousin were inside the house when she fled, after which they fainted and after a while they regain Chetna.

“When there was a shelling, my uncle (Mohammed) and his family members were inside the house. Shelling has caused them to harm them on a large scale. They have worked as a labor to educate their daughters. Everyone in the house fainted when shells collided with the house.

Mohammed’s daughter Syima said that her father educated him by indulging in labor and built the house by giving loans. He said that many household items kept for her newly married sister were also destroyed due to shelling.

“We have three sisters. Our father has taught us by laboring with great difficulties. We have built this house by taking a loan. Our sister only got married, and many items kept for her were destroyed. We were in the kitchen; I was in the kitchen; My father was in the lobby when she had shelved,” he said.

Mohammed’s wife Akhtar became emotional describing the scenes when her house was destroyed. “I think I feel like running away. I never want to return here,” she said.

“It happened around 5:00 am. I was trapped in the washroom. One of my daughters saved me after regaining consciousness.

Intense shelling by Pakistan during a recent struggle with India has left a mark of destruction in the border villages and districts across the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir, the local people suffer their homes and livelihoods.

Allegedly, local people have damaged their livestock, assets and essentially border areas such as Novashera.

Last week, Surinder Chaudhary, the sub -scholar of Jammu and Kashmir, visited the border villages near LoC in Rajouri district and interacted with residents affected by recent enmity.

A week ago, the local people living in the border villages demanded that the government compensate them for damaged houses. They urge the Government of India to “leave Pakistan” for their misconduct.

Vijay Kumar, a local village in Novashera, said that his entire life was spent on the construction of the house, which has been damaged by Pakistan. He said that the government should compensate those who have suffered damage to their homes in the village due to shelling. (AI)
