Dhanbad:

A 32-year-old woman and her minor daughter were injured in an acid attack during a land dispute in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district on Wednesday, police said.

The incident took place in Hariharpur area, 200 kilometers from Ranchi, the state capital.

The woman suffered acid burns on her back and her 14-year-old daughter suffered injuries to her right hand. They were admitted to Saheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad.

Hariharpur police station officer-in-charge Girdhar Gopal said a scuffle broke out between the victim and another group over a land dispute. Two others were also beaten with sticks during the melee.

The injured woman, Rita Gupta, told police that two men were carrying out construction work on her land.

“When I protested, they, along with about 15 others, attacked me and my daughter with sticks. They also threw acid on us,” she told police.

Mr Gopal said complaints had been lodged by both parties.

“We have started an investigation into the matter,” he said.
