JCB excavator rescues Delhi man trapped in 40ft well

Four engines from the Delhi Fire Service have reached the scene.

Efforts are on to rescue a man who fell into a 40-foot-deep well at the Delhi Jal Board treatment plant in Keshopur Mandi area late last night.

Four fire engines of the Delhi Fire Service were rushed to the spot and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was leading the rescue operation.

Delhi Water Minister Atish has also arrived at the treatment plant to oversee the rescue efforts.

The NDRF, which failed to make any breakthrough using flashlights, lights and cameras, is digging another well parallel to the one where the child fell. In addition to the JCB, the authorities also brought a deep-digging “Poclain” machine.

Authorities were alerted at 1am that a child had fallen into a well in Keshopur, but it was later discovered that a man was trapped inside. He has not yet been identified.

Kamaljit Sehrawat, the BJP candidate from west Delhi, accused the Delhi Jal Committee of dereliction of duty.

“If there were barricades, the child would not have fallen. Atish would have come out and given false comfort. The norms should be strictly followed,” Ms. Sherawat said.
