Janic Sinner Struggled to secure his fourth place atp tour won the season title by defeating alexander zverev 3-6 6-3 7-5 in the final of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.

Sinner, who also won the tournament in 2023, grabbed all the important breaks in the 11th game of the deciding set and won in two and a half hours, despite some physical problems in the first and third sets.

The world number two became the first man to reach eight ATP finals in eight consecutive seasons novak djokovic After beating in 2015-16 Alex de Minaur In the final four.

“It feels amazing,” Sinner said after his 21st consecutive win on indoor hard courts. “It was a very difficult start for me in this final. I went into the break down, had some chances in the first set but I couldn’t use them. He was serving very well, but I tried to hang in there mentally and play my best tennis when the time came.

“The third set was a bit up and down, but I was feeling the ball very well at times, so I tried to push and I’m definitely very happy to win another title. It’s very special.”

The Italian player’s serve was broken for the third time in the tournament when Zverev took a 5-1 lead in the opening set and won it 6-3 in 47 minutes.

Sinner appeared to limp between points, raising concerns after he was forced to retire from a physical competition in Shanghai earlier this month after suffering cramps.

But the four-time major winner overcame the issue and stormed back in the second set, breaking Zverev to take a 3-0 lead and level the match with a 6-3 win.

In the decider, Zverev saved two break points in the fifth game to lead 3–2 and had a golden opportunity to take the lead as Sinner again struggled physically.

“The most important thing was not to give up and try to hang in there,” he said of his physical problems. “Try to see what the situation was. I just tried to make the right choices at the right time, I think that was the key today. It was also important to serve well and save energy in my service games.”
