Voting is underway on four seats for the Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, October 24, with the ruling National Conference (NC) party getting the support of the Congress and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
A total of seven candidates are contesting the elections, of which four are from NC and three from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
NC is expected to win three out of four seats, while BJP is ready to compromise on the remaining seats. Four seats are vacant from 2021 due to the absence of the Legislative Assembly.
All parties issue whips to ensure that party members vote as per the party’s instructions and objectives.
The first Upper House elections are being held in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir after the reorganization of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
