Stevenson and Davis both hold world titles at 135lbs – the former is the WBC champion and the latter currently holds the WBA belt. The pair have exchanged words over the years, with Stevenson calling out Davis for a rematch that never seemed possible.
Davis and Stevenson competed together early in their careers, with both fighters claiming to have the upper hand, and now impressive-turned-fighter Paul will be utilizing the services of the WBC lightweight title holder.
Paul told TMZ Sports: “We have world champions – Raymond Ford, Montana Love and Shakur Stevenson in the 130-pound weight class coming in this week.”
Stevenson is not the only world champion Paul has told to prepare for the Davis fight, with former WBA featherweight title holder Ford also in the camp.
While the inclusion of Stevenson could serve to unsettle Davis, Paul believes the WBC champion’s skill – and speed – will be a huge boon to his hopes.
He continued: “Just competing against people at your level, and people who have been doing this their whole lives, but we’re really focused on speed, not power.
“We’re not lifting as much weight and everything else. I’m really trying to lose some muscle so I can weigh less and get my punches faster.”

The 2012 Golden Gloves winner at bantamweight, Davis has won titles at 130 pounds, 135 pounds, and 140 pounds, but he has never fought over 139.75 pounds.
In comparison, Paul has promoted as a cruiserweight for the most part and has filled out the division’s maximum weight limit by 200 pounds in recent years. Paul weighed in at 227.25 pounds in order to face heavyweight legend Mike Tyson for a bout in 2024.
