Jack O’Connell comes to the defense of controversial Amy Winehouse biopic back to black, Emphasizing its “celebration” of the late singer’s life.

In the film, O’Connell plays Winehouse’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil, while Marisa Abela plays the iconic singer, who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.

The film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and endorsed by Amy’s father Mitch (played by Eddie Marsan), attracted attention.

However, it was criticized by some of the singer’s close friends because they believed the depiction of her battle with drug addiction was “cruel” and included scenes from her funeral.

Addressing concerns about the biopic’s timing, he questioned what would be an “acceptable timeline” and claimed the film was not intended to portray Winehouse in a negative light.

He said in an interview sunday times“Put it this way: If we were trying to portray her in any sort of negative light, then that’s probably a valid point, and I can understand one or two people preempting it.

But if you talk to Sam, we wouldn’t even call it a biopic, we would call it a celebration. “

Jake shared that he was nervous while visiting the set, speculating that Amy’s father might have had negative feelings after seeing him dressed as Blake.

Despite this, O’Connell revealed that the time he spent with Blake was marked by openness and genuine affection for Amy.

He recounted Blake’s sentimentality toward his late wife, emphasizing his obvious love for her.
