Jerusalem:

The Israeli army said on Sunday that its forces had attacked a Hamas training facility in Gaza where operatives were preparing for an October 7 attack on Israel.

The facility in Khan Younis, the main city in the southern part of the Palestinian territory, houses models of Israeli military bases, armored vehicles and kibbutz entrances, the military said in a statement.

Soldiers also raided the office of Mohammed Sinwar, a senior commander of the Hamas armed group Ezzeddine al-Qassam Brigades.

He is also the brother of Gaza’s Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the Oct. 7 attack.

The military said troops encountered several agents who fired at them during a raid on Khan Younis’ Qadisiya compound.

The agents were “eliminated” by sniper fire, tank shelling and airstrikes, the report added.

Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing about 1,160 people in Israel, mostly civilians, according to AFP statistics based on official figures.

Agents also held about 250 hostages, and Israel said 132 remained in Gaza, at least 27 of whom were believed to have been killed.

Israel, vowing to eliminate Hamas, launched a massive military offensive that killed at least 27,365 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the Health Ministry in the Hamas-ruled region.
