Earlier on Sunday, Israeli air strikes deep in northeastern Lebanon wounded at least three people, local officials said.

The airstrikes near the city of Baalbek, a stronghold of the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group, were the latest to hit the area in recent weeks.

Baalbek Mayor Bachir Khodr, who broke the news on X, said the strike took place a few minutes after midnight and injured three people.

It’s unclear what was hit. The attack came hours after Hezbollah said it used two explosives-laden drones to attack Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system in the northern Israeli town of Kfar Broom.

The Israeli military said warplanes struck a workshop used by Hezbollah for military activities. The report added that after the attack, about 50 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards Israel, some of which were shot down while others landed in open areas.

On March 12, Israel launched two air strikes near Baalbek, killing at least two people and wounding 20 others, marking an ongoing escalation in fighting between Israel and Hezbollah over Hamas militants in Gaza.

Since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7, Hezbollah has been attacking military posts along the Israeli border. Since then, Israel has launched dozens of airstrikes, mostly along the border. But the Baalbek region has been hit by at least three attacks since late February.
