Israel cabinet approves reopening of northern Gaza crossing: report

Israel’s security cabinet reopens Erez crossing between Israel and northern Gaza for first time since Attack of October 7News portal CNN quoted Israeli officials as saying.

Israeli officials said the crossing would be opened to allow more humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, CNN reported. CNN added in the report that the cabinet also approved the use of the Israeli port of Ashdod to help deliver more aid to Gaza.

Just hours after the announcement by the President of the United States Joe Biden speaks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu He also said that future U.S. support for the war in Gaza depends on the country’s additional actions to protect civilians and aid workers.

Notably, the Biden administration continues to provide significant military aid and diplomatic support to Israel in its war against Hamas.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Health Ministry said the Palestinian death toll exceeded 33,000 on Thursday, with another 75,600 injured.

According to the United Nations, much of northern Gaza’s population is on the verge of starvation. The U.N. Supreme Court concluded there was a “plausible risk of genocide” in Gaza – a charge Israel strongly denies – and the U.N. Security Council issued a legally binding ceasefire demand.

The Israel-Hamas war broke out on October 7, 2023. Militants led by Hamas broke into southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and taking about 250 people hostage.
