The Israeli military said on Tuesday it carried out airstrikes that destroyed three launchers used to fire some of 100 rockets fired from Lebanon into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The cross-border violence is the latest round of ongoing fighting that has raised international concerns that the Israeli-Hamas war in Gaza could spread to other parts of the region.

Israel also reported on Tuesday new airstrikes in the Khan Younis district of southern Gaza as it advances its campaign to eliminate the Hamas armed group.

A ship carrying 200 tons of aid left Cyprus on Tuesday to deliver relief supplies at sea, as the United Nations warned of a worsening food crisis in Gaza.

On March 10, 2024, in the port of Larnaca, Cyprus, port workers (left) stood on the aid platform as the Open Arms aid team on the ship prepared to transport about 200 tons of rice and flour directly to Gaza.

On March 10, 2024, in the port of Larnaca, Cyprus, port workers (left) stood on the aid platform as the Open Arms aid team on the ship prepared to transport about 200 tons of rice and flour directly to Gaza.

The project is a collaboration between the United Arab Emirates, Spanish charity Proactiva Open Arms and aid organization World Central Kitchen.

The work, which includes building a terminal on Gaza’s coast, would represent a new way to deliver aid to Gaza as truck deliveries have been restricted by fighting and Israeli inspections.

World Central Kitchen founder Jose Andres said on X that the ship is on its way and that while efforts can fail, “the biggest failure is not trying.”

“We can bring in millions of meals every day,” Andres said. “People in the north will have food to eat!”

Another U.S. military mission is heading to the Mediterranean to begin construction of a temporary dock on the Gaza coastline to provide access for more trucks delivering humanitarian aid to hungry Palestinians. However, officials said it could take two months to get the facility up and running.

The final plan is to ship more food and medical supplies from Cyprus to a temporary terminal in Gaza after Israeli forces inspect the cargo to ensure it does not contain weapons belonging to Hamas militants.

The temporary terminal is needed because Gaza has no port infrastructure and has been under an Israeli naval blockade since Hamas took control of the enclave in 2007. From that time on, very few ships arrived directly by sea.

Israel said on Monday that a weekend airstrike in Gaza targeted a senior Hamas military leader but was still trying to determine whether he had been killed.

Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told a news conference on Monday that the attack on Marwan Issa’s presumed hideout took place “between Saturday and Sunday.”

He said the compound in central Gaza was used by two senior members of Hamas, including Issa, whom Israel accuses of being one of the main architects of Hamas’s Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel.

Issa is the second commander of the Hamas military organization “Ezzeddine al-Qassam Brigades”.

“We are still studying the outcome of the strike and have not yet received final confirmation,” Hagari said.

On October 7, Hamas launched a terrorist attack on Israel. According to Israeli statistics, the organization killed about 1,200 people and led to the capture of about 250 hostages. After that, Israel began a military operation to eliminate Hamas. Gaza health officials say the Israeli offensive has killed more than 31,000 people and injured 72,700.
