Royal Challengers Bangalore batted first and scored a respectable 183 runs against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Saturday. While many felt that 183 would be enough on a tricky pitch, former India opener Virender Sehwag said during the mid-innings break that RCB could be 20 runs short.

But there was no such verdict from Sehwag, with the retired opening batsman taking a shameless dig at the host as he posed difficult questions to him about RCB’s total and players’ performance.

“You can also answer, why do we make such a difference? (You can also answer. Why ask us all the hard questions). You make us do all the bad things. Is 183 enough? Is Virat Kohli batting slow? Does Faf du Plessis play slowly? But to be honest, it feels like RCB is still about 20 points short. RCB should reach 200 considering their start,” Sehwag said. Comments Comments.

Sehwag expressed sympathy for Kohli, who has received a lot of criticism for his inability to accelerate quickly. Sehwag said that while Kohli can score runs faster, he also lacks support from other batsmen in the team.

“Yes, Virat Kohli did score big runs. However, he was the only batsman in form and no other RCB player scored runs. It was good that he batted till the end but he had no support at the other end. Max Ware, Green didn’t do much. I will ask Lomror, where is Dinesh Karthik. Both batsmen are in good form and one of them is not even seen,” Sehwag asserted.

Sehwag is also known to have questioned the management’s decision not to field the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Mahpal Lomror to pick up the pace.

“They should come. You said Dinesh Karthik has been a great striker in the last five overs. He should be brought in. I can’t understand what RCB is doing,” he pointed out.
