As North Americans wait for the 2024 total solar eclipse to sweep across the sky, viewers are flocking to the closest prime spots in Texas, New York and elsewhere to witness the rare celestial event.

Many cultures associate solar eclipses with the end of time. The April 8 total solar eclipse was the last of its kind and will not occur again in the United States for the next 20 years.

A number of suspicious events occurred in the week leading up to the eclipse, further fueling fears of an apocalyptic conspiracy.

The strongest earthquake on the East Coast in 100 years struck New York and the surrounding area on Friday, April 5, just two days after a severe storm hit the city and caused severe damage.

From the beginning, the sun has been deified by many cultures and regarded as the most important object in the universe responsible for life and existence.

This is evident in the Egyptian concept of Amun-Ra, worshiped by the Greeks. In many temples, priests wore protective glasses or spectacles made of animal skins.

Worshipers attribute this caution to the sun god’s wrath against those who look directly at the sun. Therefore, this common feature of temporarily dimming the sun symbolized the failure of this god in some cultures, giving rise to myths imagining evil animals ravaging the sun.

People practice making shockingly loud noises to protect against this perceived danger. For example, some cultures, including branches of Hinduism, created complex stories of gods and devas, including Rahu’s journey in pursuit of the sun and moon.
