‘Irresistible’: Biden moment with kids disrupts campaign

US President Joe Biden caused a stir when he spontaneously left the stage at a campaign event in Phoenix, Arizona, to spend time with babies in the crowd.

According to the New York Post, when Biden noticed the baby among the attendees, he couldn’t resist the urge to join the mother and child.

“Well, folks, I have to tell you straight,” the 81-year-old Democrat told his supporters after returning to the stage. “I love you all, but I can’t resist that little baby.”

The moment came as Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez delivered her opening remarks. Biden sat with the mother and her children throughout Rodriguez’s speech and another speaker’s subsequent speech.

Biden is known for his love of babies, having previously declared, “I love babies more than people.”

The campaign in the key battleground state of Arizona is Biden’s latest effort to connect with voters ahead of his upcoming presidential rematch with former President Donald Trump.

At the event, he reached out to Latino voters, attributing his 2020 victory in part to their support and urging them to support him again in November.

In an interview during a visit to Arizona, Biden lashed out at Trump’s rhetoric on immigration, denouncing his description of immigrants as “animals” and highlighting the Republican’s commitment to enforcing mass deportations.

“We have to stop this guy, we can’t let this happen,” Biden asserted. “We are a country of immigrants.”

The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Biden with a narrow 1 percentage point lead over Trump among registered voters, with the campaign remaining tight as both candidates compete for support in key states such as Arizona.
