The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed late Saturday that Iran had launched a series of drone attacks on Israel. The Israeli military claimed that Iran launched more than 100 drones towards Israel.

Iran also fired missiles at “specific targets” in Israel as part of what it called “Operation True Commitment.”

The move came in response to an attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria earlier this month. Iran claimed the consulate attack, which killed several Iranian commanders, was carried out by Israel.

At the same time, Iran warned that if any country allows Israeli airspace or territory to launch attacks on Iran, it will respond resolutely.

Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani issued the warning on Sunday, Iran’s semi-official Mahr news agency reported.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels also launched multiple drones towards Israel following the Iranian attack, security firm Ambre said late Saturday.

“The Houthis reportedly launched drones towards Israel. The drones were launched in coordination with Iran,” the security firm said.

“Israeli ports have been assessed as potential targets,” the report said, warning that the shipping industry could suffer “collateral damage.”

The Israel Defense Forces said it could take several hours for the drones launched from Iran to reach Israel. The drones were reportedly spotted flying over Iraqi airspace toward Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces said they were on high alert and monitoring all targets.

“Iran launched a drone from its territory towards the territory of the State of Israel,” Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a televised address on Saturday night.

“We are on high alert and preparedness.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel’s defense systems have been deployed and are ready to deal with any situation. He also expressed his gratitude to the United States, Britain, France and other countries for their support.

Under President Joe Biden, the United States has pledged to stand with Israel against Iran. At the same time, a retired Israeli general revealed that each Iranian drone is equipped with 20 kilograms of explosives.

The Israeli military said it would activate an alert if there was a threat. The statement also said the country’s defense sector was ready to intercept incoming drones, which they determined were carrying explosives.

Channel 12 TV reporter Nir Dvori said on social media that the Israeli public usually receives a 20-second warning during a missile attack to seek shelter. In this case, however, the warning was given hours in advance, which understandably led to heightened levels of anxiety among the Israeli public.
