New Delhi:
Iran has announced a visa exemption scheme for Indians traveling to the country. The Iranian Embassy said that the visa-free entry policy will come into effect for Indian citizens from February 4, subject to four conditions.
Indian tourists can now travel to Iran for up to 15 days without a visa. But, there are riders.
Here are four conditions under which you can travel to Iran visa-free:
- Indians holding ordinary passports can enter the country visa-free once every six months for a maximum stay of 15 days. This 15-day stay cannot be extended.
- Visa exemption rules apply to individuals entering Iran solely for tourist purposes.
- Indians must obtain a visa if they wish to stay longer or enter multiple times within a six-month period.
- The visa-free provision applies specifically to Indians entering the country by air.
Iran has become the latest country to offer visa-free treatment to Indian tourists in the past few months. Vietnam, Thailand and Sri Lanka have also relaxed visa regulations for Indian tourists.

Iran has approved a new visa-free program for 33 countries – India, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Mauritania, Tanzania, Zimbabwe , Mauritius, Seychelles, Indonesia, Darussalam, Japan, Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brazil, Peru, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia and Belarus.
