iPhone SE 4 may feature a sports display made by this Chinese company

According to reports, the iPhone SE 4 – Apple’s fourth-generation “special edition” smartphone – may feature an OLED screen made by a Chinese company. The iPhone maker is reportedly in talks with three suppliers over the cost of displays for its upcoming mid-range smartphones, with one supplier reportedly pulling out due to the cost of each display. Currently, Apple has not disclosed plans to launch a new iPhone SE. The current model will be launched in 2022.

ZDNet Korea Report (Korean) Chinese electronic components maker BOE (BOE) has won the bid to produce OLED screens for the so-called iPhone SE 4, citing industry sources. Apple is reportedly accepting successors to the iPhone SE (2022) from Samsung, BOE, and Tianma.

According to the publication, BOE may supply most of the displays for the iPhone SE 4 after Samsung exits the race for commercial viability. Samsung Display is reportedly quoting $35 to $40 (roughly Rs. 2,900 to Rs. 3,300) per display, while the Chinese company is quoting $30 (roughly Rs. 2,500). The iPhone SE 4 is expected to have a similar design to the iPhone 14 and support Face ID.

Apple reportedly proposed a considerably lower price of $25 (roughly Rs. 2,100), prompting Samsung to end discussions in mid-March. Sources told the publication that the South Korean tech group was not too keen on producing displays for mid-range phones from the start due to concerns about lower prices.

Of the two Chinese suppliers, only BOE appears to be capable of producing display units for the iPhone SE 4, and is reportedly ready to supply the component for Apple’s cheaper smartphone. Meanwhile, Tianma has been unable to meet Apple’s technical requirements for the display of the iPhone SE 4, which is rumored to debut in 2025.
