iPad Air 6 expected to arrive in one size, with horizontal front-facing camera

Apple is said to be preparing to launch new iPad Air and iPad Pro models in late March or early April. The tablets are expected to receive a host of upgrades, including updated chipsets, displays, and iPadOS 17.4 software. The upcoming iPad models may also see some changes in the camera department, with reports suggesting that the tablet’s front and rear cameras will be improved. Both the updated iPad Pro and iPad Air are said to be equipped with horizontal front-facing cameras. The latest leaks confirm claims about a sixth-generation iPad Air.

Tipster ShrimpApplePro (@VNchocoTaco) said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the upcoming iPad Air 6 is unlikely to receive a major redesign other than adding a new horizontal front-facing camera.

The front-facing camera on current iPad Air models is oriented in portrait orientation, but according to newly reported design changes, the front-facing camera will appear at the top when the tablet is in landscape mode. This information is consistent with previous reports that upcoming iPad Pro and iPad Air models will move to landscape front-facing cameras.

The leaker, citing sources, claims that the iPad Air 6 will only come in a single size, while previous reports suggested two sizes. “According to my source, only one size is currently seen, which is 10.9 inches. So, there may not be a larger size available,” the source said in the post.

Previous reports stated that the new iPad Air will debut in a new 12.9-inch model, as well as a regular 10.9-inch model. The iPad Pro, on the other hand, is expected to come in the usual 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes.

According to reports, the upcoming iPad models will receive major upgrades. The next-generation iPad Pro is said to be powered by an M3 chip and may feature an OLED display. Additionally, the tablet is expected to come with an improved rear camera module and MagSafe wireless charging support. On the other hand, the sixth-generation iPad Air is expected to run on the M2 chipset. Apple is also said to be preparing a new Magic Keyboard accessory with a larger trackpad, as well as a new Apple Pencil to go with the iPad.

Apple hasn’t revealed its plans for new iPad models, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the tablets could launch later this month or in early April. This week, a report from Chinese media outlet IT Home claimed that the new iPad series is expected to launch on March 26.
