According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is expected to release iOS 18 later this year for eligible devices with a new visual redesign. Apple’s next smartphone operating system will reportedly come with new artificial intelligence features as the iPhone maker chases other companies such as Google and Samsung. A recent unconfirmed report suggests that the update could bring significant changes to user interface (UI) elements that could resemble parts of Apple’s VisionOS operating system.

In the subscriber version of his weekly Power On communication (pass According to 9to5Mac, Gurman said Apple is making changes to UI elements on iOS that may be implemented this year. This means that iOS 18 (expected to launch later this year for some smartphones running iOS 17) may change the look and feel of iOS in a few years.

A recent report claimed that Apple plans to bring several UI components from VisionOS to iOS 18. These include translucent UI elements and blur effects across various system applications. However, Gurman said the company is not planning such an extensive UI overhaul for the iOS 18 update.

At the same time, Gurman said Apple is also working on updating the macOS interface and smartphone operating systems. However, unlike the iOS 18 update, it appears users will have to wait until macOS 16 or macOS 17 to see these changes, as the company has just begun development on the upcoming operating system.

Last year, Apple reportedly paused development of iOS 18 for about a week to iron out previously undiscovered bugs in the operating system. With the so-called iPhone 16 series lacking major hardware upgrades, Apple is said to equip its next major iOS version with artificial intelligence features to convince customers to upgrade to the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 successor Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max machines. The model is expected to be available later this year.
