Russian internet star Maxim Lyutyi has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the death of his one-month-old son. Lyutyi reportedly believed that exposing the baby, named Kosmos, to sunlight would give him superhuman powers. Unfortunately, the baby died of malnutrition and pneumonia while being taken to Sochi hospital. According to social media posts in January, Lyutyi expected an early release.

Now, he faces more than eight years in a maximum-security prison for “intentionally causing grievous bodily harm” following a last-minute plea change last week.

Lyutyi then instituted a regimen for the baby centered on a strict vegan “prana” diet, emphasizing foods such as berries, which are believed to enhance the body’s spiritual energy.

A more extreme variant was known as Breatharianism, which went to great lengths to propose that food could only be obtained from sunlight.

Mironova’s cousin Olesya Nikolaeva expressed her frustration, saying: “He forced her not to feed the child. Her boyfriend believed that the sun was feeding the child.”

“Oksana secretly tried to breastfeed the baby, but she was very afraid of Maxim.

“How is it possible to feed a baby with sunlight? Babies need breast milk.”

According to media reports, the influencer wanted to “experiment on a child, feed him pure sunlight and spread the word to others that this is what you can eat.”

Lyutyi also reportedly refused traditional medical care and gave Kosmos cold baths, believing it would strengthen the baby. Interestingly, while in prison, Liuti, now 48, completely gave up his previous beliefs and even started eating meat. Mironova’s mother Galina expressed regret that this change did not happen sooner.

She said: “I am against my daughter joining this sect.

“I felt everything and told her Maxim was crazy, but she didn’t listen to me.

Oksana lived there like a guinea pig. Every time she becomes cold towards me…she is his slave.

Another relative said: “She tried to leave him several times but he held her back.

By the time Lyudi agreed to take his baby boy to the hospital, it was too late. Cosmos died before arriving there on March 8 last year due to malnutrition, Metro reported.

Paramedics pronounced the 3.5-pound baby dead, and both Lyutyi and Mironova were arrested.
