Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday announced while presenting the interim budget for 2024-25 in Parliament that it has been decided to increase the Lakhpati Didi target from Rs 20,000 crore to Rs 30,000 crore.

The Union Minister said that 8.3 million self-help groups (SHGs) and 90 million women are transforming the rural socio-economic landscape through empowerment and self-reliance.

According to the government, 8.3 million family members and 90 million women are transforming the rural socio-economic landscape through empowerment and self-reliance.

“Their success has helped nearly ten million women become Lakhpati Didi. They are an inspiration to others. Their achievements will be recognized by paying tribute to them,” the finance minister said.

Sitharaman further said that inspired by the success, Lakhpati Didi’s goals have been heightened.

“Our Prime Minister strongly believes that we need to focus on the four major castes. They are ‘Garib’ (poor), ‘Mahilayen’ (women), ‘Yuva’ (youth) and ‘Annadata’ (farmers). “Their needs, aspirations and Welfare is our top priority. When they progress, the country will progress,” she said.

She added that all four individuals need and receive support from the government in their quest for a better life and their empowerment and well-being will drive the country forward.

She further emphasized that the government is adopting a comprehensive, universal and inclusive approach to development.

“It covers all castes and all sections of people. The government is working towards making India a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047,” she said, adding that to achieve this, “we need to empower people and empower them that power.”
