Instagram is testing a new way to share private posts with close friends

Instagram wants to take privacy to an even deeper level, and to that end, the platform is testing a new feature called Flipside. Instagram realizes that most people like to create two accounts on the platform so they can have separate profiles for work and friends. With Flipside, they can do this from one account.

Having a second profile allows you to keep it private to your special and close friends, and only they can see what you post in Flipside. The Meta-owned social app realizes that people are seeking more privacy from the public, especially when their lives are under scrutiny for different reasons.

Flipside helps them detach and share more personal content with people they know well. Anyone using Flipside can have a different profile picture, name, and even their bio, making them less polished than their public accounts. You also have the right to remove everyone from that private profile and start over.

Instagram is currently testing the feature with a small group of users, so the platform will likely make it publicly available in the coming months. Instagram says users need to be 18 or older to use Flipside, which allows them to create public and private profiles using the same account.

The platform also notes that private posts are not available for business profiles, which is not surprising. It’s encouraging to see that Instagram is really focused on the privacy aspect and if this new feature were rolled out to everyone, most users would happily embrace it.
