India's support 'far reaching': Mauritius PM at launch of new airstrip

Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth on Thursday thanked his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for giving a new dimension to relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr Jugnauth today jointly inaugurated six community development projects in Mauritius through videoconferencing.

“Indeed, we are making history today at Agalega Island, where a new airstrip, new jetty and many other development projects have been inaugurated. This event is another milestone in the remarkable and exemplary partnership between Mauritius and India, Mauritius It is a symbol of a great moment,” the Prime Minister said.

Mr. Jugnauth said that the establishment of the new airstrip at Agalega and the St. James Jetty facilities is the fulfillment of another dream of Mauritius that many generations of people live in their hearts.

“This would not have been possible without India’s assistance which has fully financed these infrastructure projects,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for paying special attention to Mauritius since assuming the responsibility as Prime Minister of India. Lauding the role of the Indian community, he said that these people have firmly established themselves as a “global force of values, knowledge and success”.

Mr. Jugnauth said, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Shri Narendra Modi Ji for being here to give a new dimension to Mauritius-India relations and partnership. Expressing his gratitude to PM Modi for his efforts towards Mauritius since assuming office, Mr Jugnauth said, “Modi ji, on behalf of the Government and the people of Mauritius, I express my deep gratitude for the special consideration you have given to our country. Want to express my gratitude. Since you have assumed the responsibility as Prime Minister of the Republic of India.”

He said India’s support to Mauritius is “far-reaching” and said his country has become the first country to adopt the Jan Aushadhi Scheme.

Highlighting India’s support for Mauritius, he said, “India’s support for our Republic is truly far-reaching. And just yesterday, again, thank you for your special consideration towards our Republic, Mauritius with the adoption of the Jan Aushadhi Scheme. “has become the first country.” ,

Speaking about the benefits of the Jan Aushadhi Scheme for the people of Mauritius, he said, “This scheme will allow our country to acquire approximately 250 high quality medicines from the Indian Bureau of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices. This will ensure access to quality medicines. Will do.” From India to our population, especially the vulnerable.”

Jan Aushadhi Yojana (JAS) is a government initiative that aims to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices. The scheme was launched in 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was present during the inauguration of the projects. In an earlier press release, the Prime Minister’s Office said, “The inauguration of these projects is a testament to the strong and decades-long development partnership between India and Mauritius.”

“The projects will meet the demand for improved connectivity between mainland Mauritius and Agalega, strengthen maritime security and promote socio-economic development,” it said.

The inauguration of these projects is significant as it follows the recent launch of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and RuPay card services in Mauritius by PM Modi and Mauritian counterpart Jugnauth on February 12.
