Biden administration official says India agrees to lower tariffs on several U.S. products

India has opened its market to several U.S. products that have benefited U.S. farmers after resolving six World Trade Organization disputes last year, a senior Biden administration official told lawmakers on Tuesday.

U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai told members of the House Ways and Means Committee on President Biden’s 2024 Trade Policy Agenda that India’s steps provide greater market access for turkey, duck, blueberries and cranberries. Benefiting farmers in several U.S. states.

“In June last year, India and the United States terminated six WTO disputes, and India agreed to lift retaliatory tariffs on several U.S. products,” Tai said.

“This means improved access to chickpeas, lentils, almonds, walnuts and apples, benefiting farmers across the country, including those in Michigan, Oregon and Washington state,” she said.

“In addition, in September, India and the United States resolved our final pending WTO dispute, with India agreeing to reduce tariffs on several U.S. products. This meant greater market access for turkey, duck, blueberries, and cranberries, allowing Farmers benefit in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin,” Tai told lawmakers.
