Indian Navy seizes 940 kg of drugs in Arabian Sea

The Indian Navy, with support from the Multilateral Joint Task Force, has seized 940 kilograms of banned narcotics in the Western Arabian Sea, officials said on Tuesday.

An Indian Navy spokesperson said that on April 13, the Indian Navy’s elite MARCO commando team deployed on the frontline ship INS Talwar seized drugs from a “dhow” in an operation named “Crimson Barracuda”.

This is the first time that the Indian Navy has conducted an “anti-drug” operation as a member of the Combined Maritime Force (CMF).

The CMF said INS Talwar provided support to the Canadian-led Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 and as a member of the CMF made its first interception of illegal narcotics, seizing 940 kilograms of drugs in the Arabian Sea.

The CMF is a 42-nation naval partnership that upholds the rules-based international order by promoting security and stability in the 3.2 million square miles of water that encompasses some of the world’s most important waterways.

An Indian Navy spokesperson said: “On April 13, the Indian Naval Ship INS Talwar, deployed in the western Arabian Sea for maritime security operations, successfully seized a suspicious vessel as part of Operation Crimson Barracuda led by the Joint Task Force. ‘s sloop.

“The ship’s professional boarding team and MARCO seized 940 kilograms of prohibited narcotics. The drugs are being processed in accordance with standard operating procedures,” he said.

The Indian Navy, with the support of CTF 150, seized the drugs.

CTF 150 is one of five task forces under the CMF, the world’s largest international naval partnership.

CTF 150’s mission is to disrupt and disrupt the ability of non-state actors to transport weapons, drugs and other illicit substances in the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman.

As part of Operation Crimson Barracuda Concentration, INS Talwar seized 453 kg of methamphetamine, 416 kg of cannabis and 71 kg of heroin from the dhow, the CMF said in a statement.

The Indian Navy joined the CMF in November last year.

Captain Colin Matthews, Commander of Royal Canadian Navy CTF 150, said: “I commend the crew of INS Talwar for their efforts during this concentrated operation. Their hard work paid off with the seizure of 940 kilograms of drugs.”
