Naik, a 65-year-old Indian Army veteran, was arrested on suspicion of opening fire after a violent argument while drunk, police said on Wednesday.
Police said Parashuram went to the house of 31-year-old Suraj in Abijal on Tuesday and started arguing with him and his family.
The accused and Suraj’s family have always been friends and have a good relationship. But they said their relationship had become strained recently due to some disputes. According to police, a heated argument broke out between Suraj and his father when they stopped Parashuram from entering their house.
In a fit of rage, Parashuram, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, took out his licensed revolver and pointed it at Suraj, who fled. The defendant then fired into the air, causing panic.
Neighbors pacify Parashuram. Meanwhile, a senior police officer said Suraj informed the police who rushed to the spot, arrested Parashuram and seized his revolver. He said no one was injured in the incident.
Suraj alleged in the complaint that Parashuram, who had known his family members for the past few years, often visited their home under the influence of alcohol and argued over trivial matters.
“Based on the complaint, we registered a case at Gangamma Gudi police station under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Arms Act. The accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody,” he added.
