Bhopal, October 28 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said that while many countries have exploited nature for their own benefit, India has nurtured and protected it for centuries.
The Chief Minister said that consumption-driven lifestyle aggravates the existing climate crisis, while Indian philosophy emphasizes on conservation before consumption and promotes harmony between yoga and enjoyment, which reflects its true essence.
Yadav made this statement while addressing a seminar jointly organized by the State Policy and Planning Commission, Madhya Pradesh Science and Technology Council and EPCO at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal.
The objective of the seminar is to deliberate on the role of states in addressing climate change and creating an enabling environment for sustainable development through collective participation of individuals, society and governments.
The upcoming UN climate change conference will be held in Brazil in November 2025 to discuss issues affecting water, forests, land, biodiversity and human life.
The ideas and suggestions emerging from this seminar will be shared at the Brazil conference. Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India to initiate such a discussion, the Chief Minister said in a statement.
Based on the theme ‘Living Well’, the seminar focused on strengthening the links between environment, lifestyle, climate and sustainable development and the role of states in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Sharing his views on environmental protection, Yadav said that environmental protection should become an integral part of daily life.
“The state government is continuously working to expand green cover, conserve wetlands, revive water sources and promote environment-friendly industries,” he said.
Yadav said the seminar is deeply connected to the survival of humanity, the balance of the planet and the well-being of future generations.
He stressed the need to link local thinking with global solutions and make progress while maintaining a balance between development and environmental protection.
