Incredible technology: Apple CEO Tim Cook gives reasons why Vision Pro headphones cost around Rs 3 lakh

The Apple Vision Pro is finally here, and the $3,499 (approximately Rs. 2.90 lakh) earphones are dividing opinions purely because the company has invested so much in the technology.

Apple entered the mixed reality (XR) space much later than most tech giants such as Meta and even, to an extent, Google. But now with the official entry and product launch, it’s time to see the market response. According to reports, sales are close to 180,000 units. Interestingly, just before the product was launched, Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared in front of the media wearing Vision Pro headphones for the first time.

But the main question everyone is asking Cook & Co. is, why is it spending so much money? Okay, it’s no surprise that Apple charges a premium for its first headphones, but why is there a 6x price difference between the Vision Pro and Meta Quest headphones?

Tim Cook is understandably skeptical, with the Apple CEO saying the high price points to the device’s advanced technology.

The company believes the headphones, which run on two pieces of Apple silicone, use more than 5,000 patents and offer more than 500 apps at launch, make them a premium addition to the consumer market. If that wasn’t enough of a reason for the company to price the product high, Cook reiterated the years of work it’s taken to make spatial computing a reality with the help of machine learning and artificial intelligence.

If the company approaches 200,000 pre-orders for its product, it looks like Apple could breathe new life into the segment, which Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg is counting on, which could mean he of companies may launch Android systems – just like the impact on this market segment.

While Apple has made hundreds of apps compatible with the headphones from day one, the company has missed out on some big-name platforms like Netflix, YouTube, and more.
