Parliamentary election manifesto released from AICC headquarters today

The Congress party on Friday made a strong appeal to people to restore faith in the party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and promised greater freedom, faster growth for all, quoting Rabindranath Tagore’s famous quote “Heart without fear, head held high” and justice.
In the Congress party’s election manifesto released from the AICC headquarters, the party claimed that the past 10 years of the BJP-NDA government have been characterized by exaggeration and propaganda rather than substance and performance.
“Economic growth has been less than satisfactory. Widespread unemployment, high inflation and declining consumption have undermined even this modest growth. While the poor and middle class have been hit, the atmosphere in the country has become hateful – rife with divisions ,” the party claimed under the heading “Appeals.”
The Congress also claimed that constitutional values have been pushed to the background and majoritarianism has taken over.
“Inequalities are widening. People of all strata are living in fear. What India and its people need at this time is a decisive break with the path of the past 10 years. The people aspire to embark on the path of all-round development,” the declaration said: “Equality, Fairness, freedom and justice. Congress has the ability to lead the people on this new path. “
“The lessons of history are before you. The Congress achieved independence. The Congress laid the foundation of democracy. The Congress guided the country’s economic development in the 1950s and 1960s. The Congress government participated in the 1965 and war of 1971 and protected the sovereignty and integrity of India. Congress brought a paradigm shift in 1991 and ushered in an era of impressive growth,” it said.
Over the past decade, the Congress party has asserted itself as a bulwark against illiberalism and authoritarianism.
The party said it stands with the people against unjust and oppressive laws.
“Keeping the lessons of history in mind, the Congress calls on you to once again have faith in the Indian National Congress. We promise you greater freedom, faster growth, fairer development and justice for all. We call on you to vote Support the ‘hand’ symbol and the logo of the Indian National Congress candidate,” the party said.
The declaration concluded: “It is time to remind ourselves of Rabindranath Tagore’s immortal words in Gitanjali: Heart without fear, head held high…Enter the paradise of freedom, my heavenly Father, let my country awaken. “
In its manifesto introduction, the party said the 2024 general elections offer an opportunity to fundamentally change the style and substance of governance, as was evident in the “Anyay Kaal (time of injustice)” of the past decade.
“We call on you to rise above religion, language and caste and make wise choices to establish a democratic government that works for all the people of India. We call on you to vote for the Congress,” the party said.
