Doctors at a private hospital in Delhi reattached the severed hand of a factory worker after 10 hours of complex plastic surgery.

The patient’s name was Ashok, a daily wage worker in a factory. Tragedy struck when his right hand was completely detached due to an accident.

Dr Nikhil Jhunjhunwala from the Department of Orthopedics at Sir Gangaram Hospital said: “Reconnecting the fractures, tendons, nerves, arteries and veins that were severed in the accident is a complex surgery.”

“Dr. Jhunjhunwala, with great assistance from his fellow resident surgeon Gourav Siwas, deftly handled the complexities of the surgery as a team, ensuring rigorous care and attention to detail,” a statement from the hospital read.

The statement further said that the success of this amazing surgery was further fueled by the guidance and knowledge of Dr. Mahesh Mangal, the esteemed Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Sir Gangaram Hospital.

The statement added: “The surgical team worked non-stop, fueled by their knowledge and unshakable commitment. To restore Ashok’s hand, and thus his hope of some regularity, there was an urgent need to move quickly Take action.”

After ten hours of surgery and regaining the function of his hand, Ashok walked out of the operating room that day.

A hospital statement said: “In a momentous moment in the early morning of April 8, 2024, Ashok left the operating room with his hand healed and the operation was very successful.”
