In a big push for Centre’s ‘Make in India’, Bengaluru-based company inks deal to manufacture A220 aircraft doors for Airbus

In a major boost to the central government’s ‘Make in India’ vision, Airbus has awarded the manufacturing and assembly contract for the A220 family aircraft doors to Bengaluru-based Dynamatic Technologies. This is one of India’s largest aerospace export contracts.

The contract will support the development of the A220 program by adding capacity to existing resources. Under the agreement, Dynamatic will manufacture and assemble cargo, passenger and service doors for the A220 family of aircraft, as well as emergency exit doors on the wings (eight doors per aircraft). The door contract includes manufacturing of detailed components, which will create downstream opportunities for other Indian suppliers.

This is the second door contract Airbus has awarded to an Indian supplier in less than a year. In 2023, Airbus awarded the manufacturing contract for the A320 series bulk cargo doors and cargo doors to Tata Advanced Systems Ltd.

As a long-term partner of Airbus, Dynamatic already produces flap track beams for the Airbus A330 and A320 family aircraft and cockpit escape hatches for the A220.

India is a strategic resource hub for Airbus and the company is expanding its industrial footprint through aircraft assembly, component manufacturing, engineering design and development, MRO support, pilot and maintenance training and academic collaboration to develop human capital .

Today, every Airbus commercial aircraft is equipped with Made-in-India components and technology.

Currently, Airbus purchases approximately US$750 million in parts and services from India each year, which will increase to US$1.5 billion in the next few years. Airbus’ efforts to mature the broader Indian aerospace ecosystem also include the construction of two final assembly lines: one in Vadodara for the production of C295 military aircraft; and a second for the production of H125 helicopters.

The A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100-150 seat market, bringing together state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials and the latest generation technologies and engines. Compared with the previous generation aircraft, the A220’s noise footprint is reduced by 50%, fuel consumption per seat is reduced by 25%, and nitrogen oxide emissions are approximately 40% lower than industry standards, making it ideal for regional and long-haul routes.

Dynamatic CEO Udyant Malhotra said the first doors will be delivered early next year. Large-scale industrial works are currently taking place. Before signing a contract, we began mobilizing our resources.

Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director, Airbus India and South Asia, said: “Airbus continues to practice ‘Make in India’. This contract with our trusted partner Dynamatic is the first step for Air India to A major shift for the aerospace manufacturing industry as this work package will involve complex system integration, which will bring new capabilities to the Indian ecosystem,” said Rémi Maillard, president and managing director, Airbus India and South Asia. . “Airbus will continue to act as a special catalyst to develop the Indian aerospace ecosystem across the board, from manufacturing and assembly to design and development as well as maintenance and skills.”
