Imran Khan's party claims 'serious threats' to wife Bushra Bibi

Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party has expressed concern over the health of his wife Bushra Bivi, claiming her life is under “serious threat” and Pakistan’s “fascist regime” has refused to provide her with medical assistance.

Bushra Biwi, 49, was jailed at Khan’s Bani Gala residence last month after an accountability court sentenced the couple to 14 years in prison in the Toshakhana corruption case.

Khan, 71, is being held in the high-security Adiala jail in Rawalpindi. Both were sentenced to years in prison in the Toshakhana expensive gift case and the iddat case that declared their marriage un-Islamic.

Bushra had filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court on February 6 against the authorities’ move to declare her residence a sub-jail and requested her transfer to Adiala jail citing “potential security issues”. The concerns expressed by Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party followed claims by the party’s legal coordinator Mashal Yousafzai that Bushra’s life was in danger and needed immediate medical attention.

In a pinned post on the party’s official account, PTI claimed: “Absolutely disgraceful! The conditions in which Bushra Bibi is being held in Bani Gala are alarming, says advocate @AkMashal. Serious Injustice is happening and the High Court must intervene.” The statement said: “Let the world know that the illegal fascist regime in Pakistan has stooped so far and has become so insensitive that it viciously attacked Imran Khan’s wife Bushra. Imran Khan and refused to provide her with medical assistance.”

Bushra’s spokesperson Yousufzai shared on the It’s been five days. “The lawyer said: “(Her) life is seriously threatened and she should undergo a medical examination as soon as possible. ” adding that Bushra’s daughter and son-in-law, Khan’s two sisters Halima Appa and Uzma Appa, including Latif Khosa and lawyer Salman Saf At least five lawyers, including Salman Safdar, met her at her residence.

“A grave injustice is being done and the High Court must intervene,” the PTI chief said in a separate post.

A week after voting in Pakistan’s general election, a government has yet to be installed. Khan and the PTI claimed their mandate had been stolen by those in power and launched massive protests across the country.
